House Rules: Rotes

We will be using a custom Rote system in Anywhere Café.

Each rote is valued at the total number of dots needed to cast it. For example, a Life 2/Entropy 2 rote would be worth 4 Rote points.

This system grants you points for Rotes per Sphere dot you possess. At character generation, you can take 3 Rote Points per dot of Spheres you possess. You can hold over extra Rote points if you like; they don’t all need to be spent at one time.

As you increase spheres, you gain Rote Points equal to the dot you just purchased; for example, if you buy Prime 2, you get 2 Rote Points.

All Rotes should appear on your character sheet somewhere, along with the total number of Rote points you have and how many you have spent.

  • Using a Rote allows you a -1 difficulty to casting the Effect for which you have a Rote.
  • To learn a Rote, you must first be able to cast that Effect.
  • You can buy additional Rote points for 1 XP per point.
