House Rules: Summoning/Binding/Warding Path

Because this path is such a hot mess as written in 20th, we’re going to be slightly rejiggering it.

Instead of needing a ritual for any type of creature you want to S/B/W, you instead will buy Specialties within the Path. You get your first one for free with the first dot of the Path, and each additional Specialty will cost 10 XP.

Specialties include:

  • People and Animals: This can be either ordinary, non-magical people and animals (lower dots) or creatures of a supernatural nature whose primary residence is the mundane world; vampires, werewolves, mages, etc. This also includes support-types like Kinfolk and Kinain.
  • High Umbrood: Any Spirit that makes its residence in the High Umbra. This includes angels, thought-concept spirits, and the like.
  • Middle Umbrood: Any Spirit that makes its residence in the Middle Umbra. This is primarily focused on Naturae and Totem Spirits.
  • Low Umbrood: Any entity that makes its residence in the Low Umbra, including Wraiths.
  • The Weird Shit: Anything that lives in realms other than the ones listed above. Cthuloid horrors and the like.

Note that if you choose to buy a ritual for a specific type of creature, it must be a relatively narrow type, and it will grant you a -1 difficulty. So, the free rituals you get with each dot you purchase can be anything you can summon already, and you will be able to do so more easily with that one type of creature.

Example: If you have the Middle Umbrood specialty, you can choose to buy Ritual: Summon Moon-Spirit and it will allow you to summon any spirit related to Luna or the moon at -1 difficulty.

Example: If you have the Non-supernatural People and Animals specialty, you can buy the Ritual: People with Blue Eyes and Brown Hair and summon all blue-eyed, brown-haired people at -1 difficulty.
